The Mystery Man Exhibition

MARCH 15 – JULY 31

The Mystery Man Exhibition

An unprecedented immersive experience to discover the Man in the Holy Shroud.

An anthology of 15 years of study on the Holy Shroud of Turin.

Throughout six rooms we break down the most important aspects of one of history’s great enigmas: Who was the Man in the Holy Shroud?

This historical, artistic and scientific tour around the studies on the Holy Shroud, their impact on the Christian world and their influence on the representation of the image of Jesus, will take you on a journey through time and beyond science.

At the end of this experience awaits a life-size hyperrealistic sculpture based on scientific and forensic criteria taken from the Holy Shroud, the representation of a man that could have been Jesus after his death.

The central figure of Christianity

Jesus of Nazareth

In this room we analyse how Jesus of Nazareth has been represented in Christianity. The image of Jesus has been represented in countless ways over the course of history, always maintaining its importance as a central element of Christianity.

Historical context

His condemnation and death

What were the last days of Jesus’ life like and what happened in the days following his death? After being flagellated and crowned with thorns, Jesus was nailed to a cross, left to die and then buried. On the third day he rose from the dead. In this room you will find archaeological items related to this transcendent moment in history, such as Judas’ 30 pieces of silver.

A Shroud appears

The Holy Shroud

In 1357, a shroud appears. It is in this very year that we find the first reference to the piece of fabric that we know today as The Holy Shroud of Turin. This room will take you on a journey through the relic’s history, from its discovery through to the fire of 1997.

The image of Jesus throughout history

Immersive room

The best possible way to walk the path of history is to be immersed in it. In this immersive room, visitors will find themselves surrounded by representations of the image of Christ corresponding to different historical periods. The influence exerted by the image of the Man in the Holy Shroud on those artistic renderings is clear in this journey through the past.

Forensic studies

The Shroud of Turin has been a source of numerous questions for both science and the international community, questions that have helped build the enigma it represents. For decades, it has been studied by forensic scientists, chemists, theologians and other specialists who have been attracted by the enigma of the Holy Shroud.

Hyperrealistic sculpture

This is the most special moment in the exhibition. The hyperrealistic representation of the Man in the Holy Shroud is the culmination of years of painstaking research and the thorough creative process of the sculpture, made to bring the mystery to life through science and innovation.

The Mystery Man will tour the five continents.

Salamanca Cathedral has been chosen to host the world premiere of The Mystery Man exhibition, before it starts touring the world.

From 2023 onwards, the exhibition will visit other European cities.
