THE MYSTERY MAN EXHIBITION
OCTOBER – DECEMBER 2022

A unique exhibition inside an emblematic cathedral

Salamanca’s temple is the chosen venue for the premiere of The Mystery Man, an exhibition that will travel around the entire world.
In addition to the immersive experience of The Mystery Man, you will be able to travel through the nine centuries of history and religious art that join together the Old and the New Cathedral in monumental continuity. A must-see in the city of Salamanca, whose old town has been awarded the distinction of World Heritage Site.

The Old Cathedral

The Old Cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady of the See, is a jewel of transitional Romanesque architecture. Its most prominent feature is its lantern tower, known as the Torre del Gallo, or “Cockerel Tower”. Inside the temple, whose construction started in the first half of the 12th century, we recommend you take a look at the Chapel of Saint Martín, also known as the Oil Chapel. Fortunately, the magnificent altarpiece in the sanctuary—made by the Delli brothers in the 1440s—still stands in its original location.

The New Cathedral

In the New Cathedral, built in the 16 century and finished in 1733 by the Churriguera brothers, there is an image of the cathedral’s patron saint, Our Lady of the Assumption. It was carved in 1626 by sculptor Esteban de Rueda for the provisional altar that was set up in the first half of the church while the rest of it was completed.
